Ask any home or business owner what they wish they did differently with regards to their ongoing efforts to stem a termite infestation and we expect that they will say that they would have secured regular professional inspections. Termite prevention is a lot easier than treatment for termites . Once pests find a way onto your property they can be notoriously difficult to get rid of. TYPES OF TERMITE TREATMENT

If a termite inspection service shows signs of termite activity in your home you need to act as quickly as possible to prevent further damage to your home. There are many different ‘brands’ and variations of a termite treatment but essentially there are 2 types. The first type of treatment is a termite baiting system . WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO TREAT TERMITES IN DUBBO

Termites are one of the biggest threats that Australian property owners face. If they get into a building, they can cause immense damage that costs a lot to repair and may even make a building beyond repair. Termite damage is not covered by buildings insurance and so the cost of repairs falls wholly on the property owner. A trench is dug around the property, about 15 cm wide and 30 cm deep starting 5 cm below the top of the footings. A non-repellent insecticide is applied to the trench and then to the soil as it is backfilled. Any paths or slabs that cross the line of the trench have the same insecticide injected into small, drilled holes. The aim is to have a continuous barrier that termites cannot cross. These barriers require annual replenishment and inspection but can be effective for 5-8 years.
Termite baiting systems are more appropriate where there is already a termite infestation. Baiting stations are placed at intervals around the property and contain food, typically wood, that is treated with the same non-repellent insecticide as chemical barriers. The insecticide is not harmful to humans or pets but is slow acting, usually taking 8-21 days to kill termites. During this time, they will have transferred the poison to other termites in the nest so that, eventually, the whole colony is eradicated.

ENSURING TERMITE CONTROL IS FULLY EFFECTIVE

Since the aim is to eliminate the termite problem for good, we may use a combination of termite treatments to complete the job. A baiting system will kill any termites that are already in and around the building while barrier systems will prevent further access. Although not itself a treatment, a regular termite inspection is an essential part of the treatment process. It will ensure protection is working, identify if any further problems are present and enable weaknesses in the defences to be recognised and resolved. Along with the termite treatments, we give advice on how to prevent future infestations, which can often be achieved by general tidiness and maintenance. As a result, future problems and the need for treatment will be significantly reduced.

We Aussies don’t get to enjoy the arrival of spring unconditionally like some other countries do. Sure, we love the sunnier weather, but so do our bugs, and they make a point of sticking around no matter how unwanted they are. For better or worse, we have a massive diversity of bug life in Australia, and it’s not always easy to track their cycles and know when to be ready. Which bugs come out early on? Which ones are more likely to come indoors? Which ones hibernate inside homes?

FLIES

You knew they’d be on this list, didn’t you? These nasty little things are actually active most of the year, and some species are active year-round. They breed extensively during both the spring and summer, though, which is why you’ll notice many, many more ruining your food during the warmer months.

We actually have it worse than most other countries as far as flies are concerned. Flies are resilient and can lay their eggs in many places, but they favour animal products such as meats and cheeses for their spawning. That includes animal waste as well, which is where our problem is. Because of a decline in dung beetles, flies have many more places to lay their eggs. So, it’s not just your imagination—there really are more flies than before!

CENTIPEDES

We don’t just have a few of these here; there are nearly 130 species of centipede in Australia, and many of them enjoy invading our houses. In fact, because of the nature of their exoskeletons, centipedes are very drawn to moisture, and they love to live in damp, dark places. In other words, watch out while in your bathroom, shower, or even your kitchen! Anywhere with a water source is likely to attract several varieties of centipede common to households.
